Peanut Island
Peanut Island is a man made spoil island which was created in 1918 just south of Singer Island, Florida. The island was formed as a result of dredging projects during construction of the inlet.. The island was named after a peanut oil production plant which later proved to be unsuccessful. In 1961 John F. Kennedy's secret nuclear bunker was built on the island. Today the island is 80 acres of land open to the public filled with picnic areas, two snorkeling lagoons, sandy beaches and winding trails. The island provides amenities such as pavilions, plenty of shaded areas, camp grounds and restrooms. For more information, follow the link below.
